Epsom salt bath is the most common type of detox bath, and it is extremely beneficial. However, in order to make the detox bath even more powerful, our advice is to make a salt bath combination: Epsom salt and Himalayan salt!

Both types of salt offer numerous health benefits. It is interesting to mention that many people use these types of miraculous salts as a natural treatment of various health conditions. Certainly, the best parts is that these salts are cheap, easy available, efficient and completely safe for use. Medical experts explain that these types of salt don’t cause any side-effect.

Epsom Salt

The Epsom salt is a mineral compound found in water that contains high levels of sulfate and magnesium. It is called a “salt” due to the fact it looks like a salt crystals.

It is extremely important to highlight that before you buy Epsom salt you should be cautious and read the label carefully as there are different grades of Epsom salt: for personal care, agricultural and food grade.

There are many scientific studies which have proved that after soaking in an Epsom salt bath, participants have increased magnesium levels, without having any unwanted side-effects!

How to take a super detox salt bath

Dr David Jockers explains that the amount of the salt should be determined by the person’s weight. The amount of salt presented below is for a standard size bathtub (about 25-30 gallons of water).

Measurement for Epsom salt:

  • Children under 60 lbs: ½ cup
  • Individuals between 60-100 lbs: 1 cup
  • Individuals between 100-150 lbs: 1½ cups
  • Individuals between 150-200 lbs: 2 cups
  • For every 50 lb more—add an additional ½ cup of salts

While taking a detox salt bath you can use only Epsom salt or use a mixture of Epsom and Himalayan salt.

Note: for people who don’t have detox experience and are trying a salt bath for the first time, it is advisable to use only Epsom salt. The next time, you can add Himalayan salt.

Important notes:

People who are suffering from cardiovascular disease, as well as people who have open wounds or burns and pregnant women should avoid this type of bath. In addition to that, people who are on long-term medication should consult their doctor before trying any detox method.

How to prepare a detox salt bath?

First of all you should cleanse and rinse off the bathtub thoroughly in order to remove the dirt and mold. After that, fill the bathtub with warm water (37o Celcius / 97o Fahrenheit), as on this way your body will not use its energy to balance out the temperature. Moreover, this temperature of the water is warm enough to dissolve both, the Epsom and Himalayan salt.

It is not advisable to use hot water, particularly if you have high blood pressure!

While taking detox bath you should not add any bath additives such as shampoos, oils or soaps. If you want to do a shampoo bath, you should do it before the detox bath. In order to get all of its benefits you should towel try after the salt bath.

Before taking a detox bath, it is highly recommended to eat some healthy and light meal. This is important because you might get dizzy at the end, from an empty stomach or low sugar.

Another extremely important thing is to stay hydrated. It is crucial to drink plenty of water before and after the bath throughout the day. Also, make sure to take a bottle of water and drink it while you are taking the detox bath. In order to relax, you can listen some music!

According to experts, you should soak for at least 40 minutes in order to get the maximum benefits. While you are relaxing, your body will absorb the minerals from the salts.

It is important to mention that you should be cautious when you finish with the bath as there are a lot of detoxification activities going on in your body. Namely, you may feel dizzy. Therefore, you should drain the water and get out slowly.

Last, but not least, it is important to mention that after taking the salt bath, you may notice changes in the color of the water. At most cases, the water has a milky color, but that depends on your health. Namely, if the person is smoker or if the person constantly is exposed to industrial toxins, the water may become brownish.

However, the color of the water depends on how often you take this salt bath. If you have enough time and if you can handle it, it is advisable to take detox salt bath once to three times a week.
